Ouse Meadow Campsite

is an idyllic piece of land situated directly opposite the Bluebell Railway, next door to Sheffield Park Gardens. The site offers a back-to-nature experience in the East Sussex countryside, with the Ouse Valley footpath just metres away.

CAMPERVANS WELCOME. (There is no electric hook up.)

We have a fantastic location with just enough in the way of facilities to make a great break. We added more rope swings, badminton, table football, table tennis and swingball setups and three fabulous hot outdoor showers (private and large enough for a family to shower together) and are building another new toilet block for 2021. We don’t have set pitches or electrical hook-ups and are tents and small camper vans only. No caravans, you pitch in the spot that suits you and get down to the serious business of relaxing without any fuss.

Please be aware that there is an unfenced river running along one side of the campsite.

We allow small sensible campfires and quiet, well behaved dogs (cleaning up after your dog is a must). As far as possible we let campers get on with making their own worlds in the countryside. We provide a beautiful piece of land and a pleasant atmosphere, plus toilets, hot showers and fresh water.

Are gazebo's allowed?

Yes we are happy for you to bring gazebo's and awnings.

 BBQs and firepits?

We allow BBQ's that are off ground but please avoid using disposable BBQ's as they burn the grass and are bad for the environment. We have a couple of larger pitches where fires are allowed on the ground but request that a firepit is used for most pitches (available to rent on arrival). Logs and kindling are available for sale at reception and we also  drive around the site late afternoon.

Can we play music?

We encourage quiet banter around the fire, but not at the expense of others, we specifically request that between 10pm and 10am that noise is kept to a minimum. A small speaker will be acceptable, and acoustic music is always encouraged, but please always be mindful to your neighbours and please respect our noise/music curfew of 10.30pm.

Do you have rubbish bins?

Sorry but we do not provide bins and ask that you take your rubbish and recycling away with you at the end of your stay. There is a local refuse site in Maresfield (approx 4 miles away). There are dog waste bins available but these are for used nappies and dog waste only.

Can we park next to our pitch?

Parking is allowed next to pitches in our "Railway Meadow" only (small campervans are allowed in all meadows). For our other two meadows, we try to allow campers to drive to their pitch to unload but may request that vehicles are parked outside the camping area and equipment carried in if the ground is too wet. The parking area is nearby behind a fence (20-50m away).

Are there washing up facilities?

No officially we do not have washing up facilities and ask that campers wash up at their pitches but we do have tables out with washing up bowls and liquid that are free to use if you

forget to bring them.

Are dogs allowed on site?

We allow quiet, well-mannered dogs on site but have a limit on numbers so need to be booked in advance (aggressive, noisy dogs will be asked to leave).  Please keep dogs on  leads whilst on site and use the dog waste bins on site.

Are the taps drinking water?

Yes all taps and sinks supply fresh drinking water

There are 3 pubs in Newick; The Crown, Royal Oak and The Bull approximately 45min walk along footpath and country lanes.

Can we use the river?

Yes we allow people to use the river but there are steep banks and areas that have natural blockages so don't recommend paddleboards. Like all rivers, they are untreated so strongly  suggest that water is not swallowed.
